The survey conducted for our interim management market report shows that the opportunity to develop hard skills and gain leadership experience, combined with the variation that interim assignments offer, are the top reasons why professionals choose to worn on an interim basis.
The ability to focus more on problem solving and the bigger picture, and less on daily routine tasks, gives an interim manager the opportunity to continuously expand their knowledge and skills. This is one of the reasons we are seeing more individuals from younger generations make the move into interim assignments. For those who have the right skills and mindset, interim management can be an exciting and fulfilling career path with high rewards and benefits.
Companies seek flexibility
From a business point of view, demand for interim talent remains strong, thanks to a changing economic context that makes long-term projection difficult, with organisations still facing recruitment challenges. The flexibility and cost effectiveness of interim management make that 43% of our European plan to recruit more interim talent in the next 12 months. Although we are seeing growth across all functions, change management is the most important area, with senior executives who have the ability and expertise to drive and lead change being the most sought-after.
With continued developments in technology, in areas such as AI, as well as organisations continuing to focus on delivering ESG and CSR-related projects, companies will need experts who can help drive change. For companies that want to move faster than their competitors and achieve their goals in a timely and cost-effective manner, interim management could also be the answer. Senior level interim experts can make an immediate impact and steer their teams or projects in the right direction from day one.
