As a former employee of a prestigious Big 4 firm, Hannah Hermann has acquired extensive knowledge in finance and utilized it for a successful entry as a consultant at Robert Walters.

Hannah has continuously developed herself and eventually rose to the position of Manager in Hamburg. There, she successfully leads a team and was even able to participate in the Top Achievers Weekend in Mexico due to her outstanding performance. Below, Hannah describes her journey.

Since September 2019, I've been part of the Robert Walters team, where I've quickly shaped and advanced my career. Before joining, I gained valuable experience at a BIG 4 firm, discovering my passion for communication – whether with clients or authorities. I realized building relationships came naturally to me, a facet that was somewhat lacking in my previous role. Longing for more autonomy and transparent performance metrics, I sought a workplace where my efforts would be appreciated and acknowledged. At Robert Walters, I found just that. Here, I feel empowered, akin to an entrepreneur within the company, responsible for my own success.

Transitioning careers was undoubtedly a risk, but as they say, "no risk, no reward." And it's been worth every step of the way.

My finance background is a significant advantage

My background in taxation provides me with considerable added value in my daily work as a recruiter. Firstly, I bring an understanding of where a candidate currently stands in their career, allowing me to advise them optimally regarding their next career step. Additionally, this background has granted me a robust network in the financial market, making it easier to acquire new contacts and assignments through referrals from former colleagues. Essentially, Hamburg is just a small community, and I often find that my network proves invaluable. Lastly, thanks to my professional background, I can interpret specific terminology from finance, accounting, and especially tax law. I understand what is important to the searching company. Thus, I can act as a professional sparring partner for both candidates and companies and am perceived on an equal footing.

What's so thrilling about my role at Robert Walters is the sheer variety of tasks that keep me on my toes, with surprises popping up when I least expect them. It's what keeps my work dynamic, fascinating, and full of excitement. Luckily, my natural curiosity has always been a driving force, and now, it's an asset in my career. I'm invested in every process, cheering on candidates as if I were one of them.

My journey from Consultant to Senior Consultant and now Team Leader has been an exhilarating ride. Starting with a clean slate, I dove into building connections and understanding the market. As I successfully partnered with companies and advanced in my career, the challenge has evolved. Now, it's about juggling the traditional business side, liaising with companies and candidates, while also leading and mentoring my team, sharing insights, and fostering growth. Being seen as a trusted partner by companies, candidates, and my team means the world to me.

Sure, my background certainly plays a part in my success, but what truly sets Robert Walters apart is the freedom to be myself. I've found a way to authentically connect with companies, offering support and expertise without ever feeling pushy. Here, I get to live out my passion every single day. Transitioning into a new field was daunting, but looking back, I wouldn't change a thing.
